An interesting development in the Malaya corruption case. Ex Marbella Mayor, Marisol Yagüe, has said that the councillor missing and being searched for by the police since the start of the case six years ago, Carlos Fernández, is hiding in Argentina.
To the surprise of some in the court, and to the laughter of others, she told the court that she knew where Fernández is hiding. The President of the Court, José Gordino, then intervened to say what had been heard was the truth, and he was convinced Yagüe knows where Fernández is and how he is living.
Yagüe said a friend had met Fernández in Buenos Aires airport in 2006, and she attacked the police saying that they could have found him if they had wished.
The court in Málaga, on hearing Yagüe’s statement has sent her declarations onto the Police so they can investigate. There have been long-time rumours that Fernández is a protected witness, but this has always been denied by different judicial authorities.
