Farmers say they will follow in the fishermen's footstepslarger |
smallerBy h.b. - Oct 28, 2005 - 5:31 PMThe farmers threaten to block roads across the country in another fuel dispute
No sooner does the government solve the fishermen’s dispute, than trouble rises up on another front. Now it is farmers who are threatening to hold blockades across the country, also in protest at what they have to pay for fuel. The farmers have given the government until November 25th to meet their demands of more help for the industry, and the first protests were held yesterday in Teruel and Almería where roads were blocked. The Secretary General of the COAG farmers union, Miguel López, warned that demonstrations will also be held from time to time in Aragón, the Canaries, Murcia and Andalucia.
Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, said today that the government was prepared to dialogue with the farmers, but to ask for a solution at the same time as making threats was not a a good system.
