The smuck of jellyfish is moving westwards

A total of 14 boats are now working to remove the smuck of jellyfish which are now affecting the Eastern Costa del Sol.

The resources are being shared by the municipalities of Nerja, Algarrobo and Torrox and several tons of the creatures are expected to be collected.

The jellyfish are of the type, ‘pelagia noctiluca’.

Four more boats are standing by in Málaga and Rincón de la Victoria is also taking preparatory measures as the creatures head west.

I am sorry to hear the the jellyfish plague is continuing to develop. I have just returned from Salobrena where we were affected on Monday 6th August. I was stung whilst snorkelling before any warnings went out. A nasty irritaing sting it was too! 3 of them actually, chest, shoulder and ankle. For a day or two after the ankle was afected whenever the sun got to the sting. I watched the two guys in their boat trying to clear the beach. It seemed a bit of a futile exercise, there were so many. I'm lucky it only affected my last two days otherwise it would have spoilt what was a lovely holiday in a beautiful area.
