Two United States atomic bombs fell on Palomares forty years ago
Spain and the United States have finally reached agreement on cleaning up the radioactivity in Palomares, Almería, a mere 40 years and 9 months after two United States atomic bombs fell in the area after an air accident.

Details of the agreement have not been made public, but it comes following a meeting three weeks ago between the United States Department of Energy and the Spanish CIEMAT, the Centre for Energy and Environment Investigation.

Director General, Juan Antonio Rubio, said ‘Not even the Americans know what is there. There could be nothing, but there could be a problem and if there is, it will be solved’.

The bombs which fell are known to have contained both Plutonium and Uranium.
