The Spanish King and Queen today inaugurate the new hotel at the Marqués de Riscal bodega, designed by Frank Gehry

World famous architect Frank Gehry officially inaugurates his latest project in Spain, for the Marqués de Riscal bodegas in Elciego, Álava today (Tuesday).

The hotel placed as part of the vineyard estate has his usual style of a wave-shaped titanium exterior. Gehry has commented hat he wanted to design something exciting, ‘de fiesta’ because wine is a pleasure.

The opening will be carried out by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, together with the lehendakari, Juan José Ibarretxe.

The Marqués de Riscal bodega has been in the small village of Elciego since 1860 and has now become one of the top names in Spanish wine.

Currently 50% of their production is exported to some 70 countries, but they plan to increase that to 80% in the near future. The new hotel is an ideal image for them to promote the bodega abroad.
