Increased speeds have been introduced on the line between Madrid and Lleida
After a long programme of tests the AVE high speed train between Madrid and Lleida is now reaching 280 kms/hour on some sections of the track.

RENFE Spanish railways say that adjustments will continue to be made with the objective of reaching 300 kms/hour at the end of the year. That is the fastest speed the line can produce because of signalling limitations with the ERTMS system.

However in the future when a new signalling system is installed speed will be able to reach 350 kms/hour by the end of 2007.
