Outrage as donkey used in bullfight
A blindfolded donkey was left to fend off a raging bull during a Spanish bullfight, news which has left a Spanish animal welfare association outraged and now seeking legal advice.
El Refugio del Burrito, which is part of the Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary in England, discovered the event had taken place after a spectator posted their video on the YouTube website on Sunday 12th November; a bullfight using a donkey had been held in the village of Navaluenga, about 90km north of Madrid on September 11th.
But it was only on Monday, when Ivan Salvia, the association’s Spanish welfare officer, was searching the site for any donkey related stories or events, that he discovered the bullfight video.
The footage has left the association disgusted. Ivan Salvia was shocked. He says: ‘I could not believe what I was seeing on this video clip. There are very strict rules and a code of a practice for bullfighting; the use of donkeys is not allowed.’
‘We think many of the spectators could have been children too, you can hear them laughing, screaming and cheering on the video – it is so disappointing – they are the animal owners of the future.’
‘We believe what took place was illegal and we are now seeking legal advice here in Spain.’
El Refugio del Burrito and The Donkey Sanctuary aim to prevent the unnecessary suffering of donkeys and provide permanent Sanctuary to any donkey in need of refuge in the UK, Ireland and Spain. Unfortunately this along with any other tale of cruelty to animals or the
indifference to their suffering surprises me. The fact that so-called
children as well as so-called adults were present and goading on the bull
and cheering etc is no surprise either. Spaniards no doubt think the
British as softies when it comes to the care of their pets but Spaniards of
both sexes, young and old seem to aquire at conception a gene which causes
them to iltreat and enjoy the suffering of animals.

This makes me sick! To think anyone would do such a thing to a helpless
animal is beyond me? It sucks that this is our future doing this, but let
me tell you I am raising 2 boys to respect animals and care for them. Not
all our future will be like this, I promise you! It's unfortunate for this
poor little donkey who had to suffer because some parents did'nt raise
their children to respect all life.

Quaker Concern for Animals in Britain appeals for compassion and respect
for all God's creatures and sends our support and love to the excellent
Spanish campaigners who work to combat this cruelty. We are also asking our
members to think seriously before they decide to take holidays in Spain.

As an animal lover, as a Spaniard citizen, I beg you to help us in this
difficult work.
Pressing the authorities, the government.
Tell them that you do not want to come until they stop torturing animals like public spectacles.
THESE KIND OF PEOPLE MAKE US SICK.
BULLFIGHTING IS NOT A TRADITION,
IS MURDER.
A DONKEY...HORSES, MISTREATMENT IN THE BULLRINGS...
Before buying something, check it, perhaps it supports bullfighting in MANY WAYS, here many examples
EL CORTE INGLES (SHOPPING MALL)
HALCON VIAJES (FLY TRIPS)
IBERIA (FLIGHTS)
TRIP HOTELS
CRUZCAMPO (BEER)
COCA-COLA, PEPSI, REDBULL
SIEMENS, FUJITSU, CITROËN
MERCEDES BENZ, TOYOTA

Bullfighting,bull-donkey "fighting," bulls with fire, bulls with rope,
bulls with darts, and all sorts of Spanish bullfighting "traditions" should
be outlawed in Spain now! I'd hate to agree with the English gentleman, Mr.
Patrick Williams, who wrote that most Spaniards seem to "acquire at
conception a gene that causes them to illtreat and enjoy the suffering of
animals."
These so-called adults who expose their children to acts of sadism should be tried for both CHILD ABUSE and CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. A long jail time should do the trick.

I had planned on visiting Spain with my children and wife, but we will go
to France now. I don't want to visit a country full of animal murderers.
