Urban expansion will make Murcia 2nd most densely populated province in Spainlarger |
smallerBy m.p. - Jan 14, 2007 - 10:23 PMAn estimated 2.5 million cars will be on the roads by 2017
The Murcia Region will be the second most densely populated province in Spain in ten years’ time, should all the development projects which are planned go ahead. It would put Murcia second only to Madrid.
It’s the conclusion of
Antonio Campillo, President of The Citizen’s Forum, and Professor of Philosophy at Murcia University. He bases it on the results of a number of studies recently carried out into the environmental impact of urban expansion.
Another fact to come out of the studies is how expansion in the Region would affect air pollution levels: an estimated 2.5 million cars will be on Murcia’s roads by 2017, polluting the atmosphere with the highest level of carbon dioxide emissions in the country.
