A local councillor said beaches in Chilches have disappeared
The MA-8301 road from Estepona to Jubrique, which had been closed by snowfall since Saturday evening, reopened to traffic again on Sunday morning. Drivers were, however, advised to fit snow chains to their vehicles.
The stormy weather also caused problems in the Axarquía district, especially in some of the coastal villages which fall within the municipal boundaries of the district capital, Vélez Málaga.
Reports on Sunday said houses in Mezquitilla were being battered by waves from the heavy seas, which even crossed the N-340 coastal road at times.
Lagos was similarly affected, and there was flooding near the sea front in Torre del Mar.
Antonio López, the councillor responsible for beaches in Vélez Málaga Town Hall, said the beaches in Chilches had ‘disappeared.’
