The workers want a 25 percent increase in pay
Workers on the A-7 motorway in the area of Taramay near Almuñecar have threatened to down tools unless they are paid 25% more.
There have recently been some landslides in the area, and memories are still fresh from November 2005 when six workers died when a viaduct under construction collapsed at Rio Verde.
The Ideal newspaper reports that construction could be halted completely shortly unless the Ministry for Development reaches an agreement for a higher budget for the work with the construction company.
The complicated terrain has led to unforeseen difficulties in the road’s construction, while regional politicians are keen that the stretch between Maro and La Herradura opens to traffic by the end of this month, the Dia de Andalucía.
