British naturalist and documentary filmmaker, David Attenborough, has been given the International Award by the Spanish Geographic Society in a ceremony presided over by the Prince and Princess of Asturias.

The Sociedad Geográfica Española awards have been running for ten years, and the panel said Attenborough was being honoured for his important contribution to showing the biodiversity of the planet over the past 50 years.

The first astronaut to be born in Spain, Pedro Duque, was among the other winners this year.

Princess Doña Letizia was smiling again, after the recent tragic death of her younger sister.

Prince Felipe called for more efforts in the fight against global warming, climate change, and the rapid deterioration of the environment.
