The order came on the same day that the foundation stone was laid
The regional Valencia Government, La Generalitat, yesterday ordered the halting of building work for the new desalination plant in Torrevieja.
The order came as the construction work got underway, the same day that the foundation stone was laid by central government representatives.
The regional administration claims that the new plant goes against the law protecting Natural spaces. The plant is on the edge of the protected marshlads to the south of Alicante.
The regional government has given the Acuamed company a period of five days to stop the work, and says that they will start legal action if they do not do so.
