Euro MPs visit Almería on planning complaint tour
By m.p. - Mar 1, 2007 - 10:21 PM

The delegation and regional government representatives discussed a petition presented against housing irregularities in the Almanzora Valley

The delegation of MEPs which is in Spain this week was in Almería on Wednesday, on a fact-finding mission following a petition presented by the AUAN association – Abusos Urbanísticos Almanzora No.

It relates to ‘housing irregularities’ in the Almanzora Valley and was, along with other petitions relating to town planning complaints elsewhere in Spain, accepted for further investigation by the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament.

The Junta de Andalucía has applied for some 2,000 homes in the Almanzora area built on non-buildable land to be declared illegal. Most of them are owned by British residents.

The delegation, led by the Committee’s President, Marcin Libicki, and his deputy, MEP Michael Cashman, met with Junta representatives in the province, as part of their round of contacts.

They later met with AUAN President, Bob Naya.
