Seven year old Yeremi Vargas has been missing from Vecindario on Gran Canaria since Saturday

The central government representative for the Canary Islands, José Segura, has confirmed that police are investigating the family and neighbours of the young boy who disappeared from Vecindario on Saturday, Yeremi Vargas.

Friends and teachers are also included.

The seven year old was last seen when he was playing in the street with cousins, and despite the efforts of a large search operation, there has been no trace of him since then.

The Army joined in the search on Wednesday, bringing numbers up to 400: they are combing every part of the immediate area where Yeremi was last seen.
Specialist police units have been called in from the mainland to help in the investigation.

Segura said security controls were immediately implemented at the island’s airports, meaning, he said, that Yeremi is still on Gran Canaria.

The President of the Partido Popular on the Canary Islands, José Antonio Soria, said in Madrid on Thursday that kidnapping is increasingly becoming the likely motive for Yeremi’s disappearance.
