City Mayor, Alberto Riuz-Gallardón suspervised the start of installation of new protecive barriers yesterday
The Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, was out on the streets of the capital yesterday to supervise the installation of new protective guards which are being placed below roadside crash barriers over 82kms of roads in the capital.

78kms of the barriers will be placed on the reformed M-30 ring road.

The new protectors will stop motorbike riders suffering serious injury from sliding under the crash barriers and hitting the uprights.

There are more than 150,000 motorbike and moped riders in Madrid, and the number is increasing quickly. Last month saw 2,500 new registrations in the region.
