The Government has ordered a new inspection and report from Repsol
The Government has now admitted that one of the cracks in the tanks of the sunken tanker ‘Prestige’ which went down off the coast of Galicia in November 2002, was not properly sealed at the time.
The operation to seal the two sections of the split ship on the sea bed cost 109 million € and was carried out in 2003 by the Repsol company.
However it is now known that since that date at least 20 litres of fuel oil has been escaping a day.
The Cabinet on Friday decided to call on the petrol company to carry out a new inspection to establish the seriousness of the problem.
