Greenpeace protest at coal-fired power stations

Activists climbed the chimney of the plant at Pasajes in Guipuzcoa this morning
A group of Greenpeace activists have today climbed the chimney of the coal-fired power station at Pasajes in Guipuzcoa, to hang a banner which read ‘Stop CO2’.
The environment group is calling for the immediate closure of the plant which they say emits more CO2 gas than all the cars in the province.
Some 20 Greenpeace members reached the power station at 7am to carry out the protest.
They say the plant, owned by Iberdrola, is ‘a company which defends the Kioto protocol and supports renewable energy, and they criticise the subsidies available for coal. However they continue to run two coal fired plants in Palencia, and Asturias in addition to the Pasajes plant'.
