It’s now one year since the news of the first arrests in the
Malaya corruption case in
Marbella, in an operation which still remains open.
The past 12 months have seen a number of phases, the dissolution of Marbella Town Hall and 94 arrests. Four of them remain in prison:
Juan Antonio Roca, the former planning advisor at Marbella Town Hall and the man considered to be at the centre of the corruption; the lawyer,
Manuel Sánchez Zubizarreta, who’s believed to have set up Roca’s network of companies; former Mayor,
Julián Muñoz, and another lawyer,
Juan Germán Hoffmann, who has been held on remand since 8th February this year.
He appeared again before Malaya judge,
Miguel Ángel Torres, on Tuesday, when he was, according to reports, asked to give more details on a declaration he made to the judge last week.
There is no detail on what was said, but it is known that he was questioned on the first occasion about companies linked to Roca, and on the use of leisure boats.
The lawyer is charged with money laundering and has been refused bail by the judge.
Meanwhile the Socialists and the Partido Andalucista party in Sevilla have refused to debate the Malaya case in regional chamber. A request to do so had been tabled by the Partido Popular.
