Two teams both conclude that the fault was in a component which united two sections of the supporting platform
Expert analysis of the cause of the Almuñécar viaduct collapse in 2005 has identified it as a breakage in a component of the steel platform which supported the structure. Six men died when the structure gave way on 7th November 2005: construction of this stretch of the A-7 motorway has been at a halt ever since.

The part in question united two sections of the platform, and there are two conclusions as to what exactly happened, although both identify the fault being at the same point of the structure.

The report carried out by technicians from the Development Ministry points to a sub-standard welded seam, while the report from a team of judicial experts concludes that a bolt had loosened, putting excess strain on the remainder and damaging the welded seam.

It is now up to the judge to analyse the highly-detailed technical information which has been presented, and decide what action should be taken by the courts.
