The two died after being abandoned by their mother, who had eaten a third cub earlier
Two Iberian Lynx cubs which were born on Friday at the El Acebuche Centre in the Doñana Nature Park have died after being abandoned by their mother.
Experts consider that the mother took the decision when she instinctively knew that they would not survive. The first one died after 36 hours while the second lasted for 70 hours, according to a statement from the Environment department of the regional Government.
The mother ate a third cub born on Thursday and the experts could not establish whether or not it was still born.
A week earlier there was happier news from the centre when five Iberian Lynx were born successfully. The species is currently the most endangered one in Spain.
