The new building has been designed by Spanish architect, Rafael Moneo, and has cost 135 million Euro
Spanish Minister for Culture, Carmen Calvo, opened the new extension to the Prado Museum in Madrid on Saturday.

The new discrete and elegant annexe building has opened to help display the increasing number of paintings not on show to the public, but has come in well over budget with a final cost of 135 million €.

A lantern-shaped cube, in glass-covered steel, is used to link the new galleries in the new building.

The 15,000 new square metres will officially be opened on October 30 with an exhibition of Spanish 19th century paintings. However the public will be able to browse the new space from April 28th.
