There are thought to be only 160 lynx left living in the wild in Spain
Another two Iberian Lynx kittens have been born in captivity in the Doñana Nature Park, under the breeding programme sponsored by the Junta de Andalucía underway in El Acebuche. These two latest births bring the numbers born in captivity in the centre up to sixteen: twelve of them have so far survived.

The kittens’ mother, Esperanza, was hand-reared in Jerez Zoo, and had no contact with any other lynx until two years ago. She and the father, Jub, mated successfully for the first time last year and produced two kittens: one died shortly after birth, but the other has now survived her first year.

The Iberian Lynx is the most endangered species in Spain, with only 160 thought to be still living in the wild.
