708,000 people can vote for the first time this year with more than 35 million called to the polls
Over 708,000 people will be able to vote for the very first time in the Municipal Elections to be held in Spain on May 27, and the number of foreign electors is double that last time round.
A total of 35 million 244,000 are called to vote, and of these the number of EU or Norwegian voters has increased to 318,571.
Foreigners are not however allowed to vote in the regional polls which will be taking place across the country with the exception of Cataluña, Andalucia, Basque Country and Galicia.
Most of the foreign voters are concentrated along the coast, with the province of Alicante leading the list with 62,264. Madrid comes second with 38,022 and Málaga third with 31,519.
The list continues with Barcelona with 28,356, Balearics 18,208, Valencia 14,822 and Santa Cruz de Tenerife with 12,924.
Both Spaniards and foreigners can now check that their names are correctly on the election list which will be displayed in local councils from now until April 16th, and if there is any error or omission claims can be made at census offices and local Town Halls until April 16.
There is also a phone number established to answer queries on 901 101 900.
