The trial for an alleged plot to blow up Spain’s National Court was suspended for around 30 minutes on Tuesday, as the 30 suspects charged in the case all stood up in court to support a claim from one of their number about his treatment as he was being transferred to court.

All 29 answered the signal from Mohamed Achraf, suspected of being the leader of the group, after another suspect, Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed, and the first to take the stand on Tuesday, complained of Civil Guard mistreatment before he gave evidence.

The court president, Alfonso Guevara, was forced to call police in to restore order.

The trial of the 30 suspected Islamic terrorists arrested in Operation Nova started on Monday, where Achraf, whose real name is Abderrahman Tahiri, is charged with organising Islamic cells in Spanish prisons to carry out attacks against the National Court and other targets.
