The open row over the leadership of the Partido Popular has continued over the weekend.
El País reported yesterday that Mariano Rajoy has been trying to take the reins of the party, and that most of the party barons still support him despite the flood of recent criticism.
El Mundo today has an interview with María San Gil, the hard-line PP leader in the Basque Country, who has told the paper that she said to Rajoy, in front of all those present, that there was a lack of leadership in the party. She tells the paper that she hopes to recover her faith in Rajoy as leader.
There has also been a sideshow between the party founder, Manuel Fraga, and the regional president of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre. The former commented that Aguirre had caused problems for the party, and she responded by asking him what problems exactly.
ABC thinks that today could see more large changes in the party and indicates comments from the Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, are expected.
