El Mundo headlines ‘One step from glory’ – The paper says 24 years on Spain will play in a final of the European Cup after overpowering Russia with goals from Xavi, Güiza and Silva.
El País has a photo of Xavi just after scoring the first goal, and says that Spain has dazzled Europe. The paper says the side has reached the third final in its history after hitting Russia 3-0 with the best football yet seen in the tournament.
ABC says that Spain is in the final to a chorus of Ole’s.
It says an enormous second half saw a 3-0 score and goals from Xavi, Güiza and Silva, and that thousands of fans across all Spain were celebrating the best game from Spain in the tournament.
ABC notes the bad news – David Villa, injured in the first half, will not play in the final on Sunday against Germany.

El Mundo says that the vote of the PCTV, the Communist Party of the Basque Lands, which is currently in the process of being made illegal for its links to ETA, has announced that one of its parliamentarians will support the plan, promoted by Juan José Ibarretxe, for what El Mundo describes as his unconstitutional referendum on self determination.
The paper notes that more than 150,000 Basque people living in ‘exile’ because of ETA threats, can ask for their vote in the own Spanish region.
El País says that Ibarretxe is moving ahead with his referendum thanks to the radical ‘abertzales’.
La Vanguardia says that the Government will stop the referendum with the Constitution.
El Mundo says it now has 58,000 signatures in its campaign to support Castellano as the language of Spain. The paper notes that the Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, said yesterday that there was no language problem and Castellano was not in danger. She said that Spain’s linguistic plurality should be defended instead.
El País notes that the PP President of the Madrid region, Esperanza Aguirre, has tried to sign up two key players in the P.P. who are anti-Mariano Rajoy. Juan Costa and Manuel Pizarro are named, but neither of them agreed to join Aguirre.
ABC considers that Aguirre has strengthened her cabinet ahead of the party’s regional congress in Madrid, saying she needs a ‘compact government’.
El País notes that the Supreme Court in the United States has ratified the right to possess arms and for the citizen to defend him or herself.
El País notes that mortgages will be more expensive in July with the Euribor reaching another record – 5.36%. The paper says that stock markets round the world are falling.
El Mundo tells us that oil producers OPEC think that petrol will increase in price by another 25% before the end of the summer. The paper notes the Spanish stock market fell 2.96% yesterday and says that means the end of the worst week in the history Ibex 35 index.
El Periodico de Catalunya notes that the Spanish minister for employment Camacho wants to do away with early retirement schemes. He considers it unwise for companies to lose a source os experience and knowledge.

El Mundo reports that thousands of separated widows will lose their benefits under a legal reform.
