Murcia health authorities have taken the decision to remove sweet and chewing gum machines from the region’s colleges and schools. It’s a pioneering idea in Spain and comes after reports that 30% of the children in the Murcia region are overweight.
The decision comes into force at the start of the next school year and also affects fizzy drinks.
The health department also notes that secondary and Bachillerato students only have two hours of sports a week, and they are in talks with education to try and get that amount increased.
