ETA terrorist starts his third hunger strike in Spain

The ETA activist, Iñaki de Juana Chaos, who is set for release on August 2, after serving 21 years in prison for killing 25 people when part of ETA’s Madrid Commando, has announced that he is to start yet another hunger strike – his third.

It comes after the Prosecutors Office of the National Court announced yesterday that it would be applying for an immediate embargo on the home which his wife owns in San Sebastián, where he was planning to live on his release. The flat used to belong to his mother, but was transferred to his wife’s name in July last year.

Victims associations had announced their anger at his plans, given that the families of several ETA victims live in same street as the flat in San Sebastián, and indeed two live in the very same building.

The embargo will stop the flat from being sold, but will still allow the terrorist and his wife residence there. The prosecutor will meanwhile also investigate whether the couple have been engaged in the hiding of assets.

Minister for Justice, Mariano Fernández Bermejo, has said that the latest hunger strike will not stop the law being applied fully to De Juana Chaos, so that his assets can be used to compensate the victims of his crimes.

Meanwhile it is reported that Basque Terrorists ETA owe some 5,879 of its victims a total 310 million €. The terrorists generally ignore any judicial ruling ordering the payment of compensation and indeed only 58,400 €, some 0.01% of the total has ever been paid. De Juana Chaos owes his victims 8 million €.
