The National Court Judge, Pablo Ruiz, is studying a letter read out in homage to José Ignacio de Juana Chaos, the ETA terrorist who was released from prison on Saturday after serving 21 years for 25 killings at an event in San Sebastian on Saturday. De Chaos was not at the event, but a letter supposedly written by him was read out. Those who organised the event also face charges.

Considerable outrage remains in many sections of society following his release, not least among the families of ETA victims, and if the letter is considered to extol terrorism it could land him back in jail.

The Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, has said that a close watch will be kept on Chaos at all times, while the AVT Association of Terrorism Victims says that he continues to show that he is a dangerous ETA activist.

Meanwhile the Civil Guard has found a new house linked to the ETA ‘Vizcaya Comando’. It is in the town of Ezcaray in La Rioja and is the fourth safe house investigated by police since the cell was broken up.
