Málaga health workers claim a chaotic Christmas is on the way

Around 500 health workers demonstrated in the centre of Málaga yesterday warning that health centres in the province face a chaotic time this Christmas. They claim that services will have to be dropped and delays will be made in giving appointments because the SAS Andalucian Health Service has failed to cover a shortfall of some 500 staff across the province, 200 of them doctors, others nurses and administrative personnel.

The complaints were led by the CCOO union spokesman, Rafeal González and other union leaders who said that waiting lists were set to soar as a result. He said that the Junta is denying there is a problem but the union was to hold a meeting in Sevilla ahead of making a decision on possible strike action in November.

The Junta has commented that there is no program of cut-backs, but instead one of giving stability to employment. However they did admit a margin of movement to cover illness and holidays.
