It’s now thought that the Brown Bear known as Hvala, which attacked a hunter in the forest near the town of Les, near Lerida last Thursday, could be pregnant.
An operation is now underway to capture the bear, which has been photographed in the area for the first time since the attack. Pictures showing a fat and healthy animal were taken by helicopter.
This has been criticised by Guillermo Palomero, President of the Brown Bear Foundation who has said she should be left in peace as she is possibly pregnant. He said she has never been an aggressive animal despite what some people have commented.
Meanwhile another Brown Bear has died after being hit by a vehicle. It happened at the 417 km point of the A6 at Trabadelo in León. The dead animal was a young male and may have strayed from the bear settlement at Alto Sil.
