El Mundo leads with the headlines that the state help for the bank will only be kept secret for the first few months. The paper says the Government and the Partido Popular are negotiating the names of the entities to get the help, but they will only be named publically when it will not damage them.
El País notes that Lisbon is nationalising the first bank since 1975. They have intervened in BPN to stop its bankruptcy.

El Mundo has a photo of Queen Sofia who celebrated her 70th birthday at a musical concert in Madrid with other members of the Royal Family. Music to tone down the controversy, says the paper, as many still discuss the contents of the latest biography on the Queen, and her opinions voiced in it.
El País considers that the Royal Family have come together to support the Queen.
ABC has a large photo of the King and Queen and mentions the concert in her honour last night. They don’t mention the biography.

El Mundo reports on the United States election and says that Obama has told his voters – ‘The time has come to close the deal’.
El País says that Obama is fighting for the last votes in the republican heartlands. The paper says that McCain is now appealing to the working class to try and claw back distance.

El Mundo says that José Blanco, the Socialist party number two, is visiting Cuba just a few days ahead of the G20 summit in Washington.

El País reports today that Carlos Arias Navarro, the last President of the Government in the times of Franco, has said that the United States was prepared to enter into war with Portugal to avoid the extension of communism.

ABC leads with the news of all the extra work being placed on the police scientific labs by the opening of the civil war graves. The paper claims that investigations into other crimes could be delayed by two or three years.

Público leads with their latest opinion poll which shows the PSOE and the PP tied, with the Socialists recovering the point loss they saw a month ago. The poll also shows that nearly half of conservative voters do not have confidence in Mariano Rajoy as leader.

ABC also says that the country’s judges have formed a platform to defend their interests in what they consider to be the pressures from the Government.

El Mundo claims that the Minister for Defence wants parliament to approve the removal of the maximum number of 3,000 Spanish soldiers being allowed on missions abroad. El País also gives the story prominence.

El Mundo doubts the judgement of National Court judge, Juan del Olmo, who ordered bail of 150,000 € for two policemen who were finally fined just 4,200 € for irregularities.

El País reports that a litre of petrol is only less than a euro in 40% of service stations in Spain.

And finally,
Many Spanish papers show photos of Lewis Hamilton. El Mundo says he was champion three curves from the finish. El País says he won on the last curve.
