The closure of the four quarries in Alhaurín de la Torre is now definite with the Constitutional Court rejecting an appeal against an earlier sentence from the Andalucian High Court of Justice. That court ruled in October 2005 that the quarries were illegal.
It’s an end to years of fighting in the courts after earlier decisions were challenged by Sando, one of the company’s affected. 139 direct and a further 450 indirect jobs are expected now to be lost.
Meanwhile, reforestation at the site has seen the planting of more than 4,000 trees and shrubs.
