Spain sold military material to Iran worth 36.4 million € at the start of last year. The Spanish Ministry for Industry has admitted that the revelation ‘could surprise’ but they guarantee that each sale was analysed in detail.

The items were described as ‘products and technology of double use’. That definition could include nuclear equipment or electronic components according to the El Mundo newspaper, but the Ministry says that each case was checked to ensure that it did not aid programs for the proliferation of nuclear arms.

74% of the arms exported from Spain last year went to EU countries or NATO. Top destination was Germany, followed by Morocco.
