The INE, the National Statistics Institute, has said that it has detected 235 cases of suspected census rigging in municipalities across the country.
But despite the number the INE is to prosecute in only nine municipalities, and they have informed the Junta Electoral in some 68 of the cases. However the INE has declined to supply the press with a list of the municipalities under suspicion, claiming that it is ‘internal data’.
Most of the cases have seen massive new registering onto the electoral role, known as empadropnamientos.
Meanwhile the Junta Electoral has charged the PP manager in Melilla of possible electoral fraud by ordering the printing of 1,000 counterfeit postal voting forms.
Javier Lence had earlier incorrectly told the press that he had been released without charges.
