Two workmen buried beneath collapsed wall, but rescued alive

Two workmen have been rescued alive in Guardamar del Segura, after part of the exterior wall of a house adjacent to the building site collapsed, burying them beneath the rubble.

One man was freed just minutes after the accident, while the other man was not brought out until an hour and a half later. He was however conscious when he was rescued, and was reported to have suffered multiple fractures to his left arm. Both men are in hospital in Torrevieja.

The accident happened at midday on Tuesday while excavations were taking place on the site, where a new building is under construction.

EFE reports that the two families who live in the adjacent house cannot return until the damage to its structure is repaired.
