The Development Ministry and the regional governments of Andalucía and Castilla-La Mancha are to work on a new route for a toll motorway to connect Toledo with Córdoba via Ciudad Real, after the proposed route was shelved as potentially damaging to protected areas.
They include areas classified as ‘critical’ for the conservation of threatened species, amongst them the Iberian Lynx, the Iberian Imperial Eagle, and the Black Stork.
A environmental impact report on the project from the Environment Ministry has concluded it to be incompatible with the environment, and that it would cause ‘significant negative effects.’
