With the Almuñécar rubbish strike over, another strike has been announced in Albuñol, in the eastern part of the Costa Tropical, where 15 villagers are starting a hunger strike this Sunday.
They plan to shut themselves in the village church in a protest against the Granada Archbishopric’s decision to transfer their much-loved priest, Gabriel Castillo, out of the village. Previous sit-ins and protests took place last month when the decision was first announced.
A spokesman for the protestors told Europa Press that they will stop any mass taking place until Castillo is assigned again to Albuñol, and are even prepared to take their demands to Rome if necessary.
They have suggested that the Seville Archbishop mediate in the conflict.
