Going bananas on Tenerife

The Cabildo on Tenerife has come up with a rather novel way of promoting its tourism information line, Infoturismo Tenerife: every person who arrives at the island’s airports will find a gift to be collected along with their cases in baggage reclaim – a box containing three Canary Island bananas.

With it is a letter from the Tourism Department welcoming the visitor to the island and asking them to make use of the telephone information service.

The promotion kicked off in Tenerife Sur on 9th October and starts in Tenerife next Monday, with 60,000 boxes and more than 30,000 kilos of the fruit expected to be given out by the end of the campaign.
