The Town Hall in Elda has allocated 325,000 € in next year’s budget, which will be paid out as incentives to keep young couples moving away from the town. It comes as an electoral promise from the Partido Popular local government, and means that 108 couples, providing they meet the requirements for eligibility, will receive a subsidy of 3,000 € towards the cost of their new home.
La Verdad newspaper said the offer is open to married couples between the ages of 18 and 35, who will not be allowed to sell their new home for at least five years as a requirement for receiving the subsidy. At least one of the partners must have been officially registered at the Town Hall for two years, and neither must be the owner of another property.
The Mayor of Elda, Adela Pedrosa, said the aim is to persuade couples from moving away, as has been happening in recent years, when really, she said, ‘they want to stay in Elda.’
