Deal for more new housing in Andalucía

The Andalucian Regional Government has signed an agreement with local Town Halls, unions, real estate promoters and builders, and banks and financial institutions to create what is being described as the largest pact for housing in Spain. The idea is to guarantee access to housing for all in the region.

The agreement means that 700,000 new flats can be built over the next ten years, with 300,000 of them being ‘protección oficial’ or assisted housing.

The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Chaves, said that a public tender would be issued in three months time for the construction of the first 7,000 assisted homes in the region.

The President of the Confederation of Businessmen in Andalucia, CEA, Santiago Herrero, described the deal as ‘an act of responsibility for the economic and social future of Andalucia’.
