1982: The Statutes of Autonomy for Andalucía, Cantabria and Asturias come into effect with their publication in the Official State Bulletin.

1989: The leading ETA activist Jose Antonio Urrutikoetxea Bengoetxea, otherwise known as Josu Ternera, is arrested in Bayonne, France.

The Spanish poet and painter, Juan de Jáuregui, died on this day in 1641.
