A man from Murcia has appeared in court in Alicante province after he was caught at the port in Dénia with a number of valuable antiques loaded in his van, some of them dating back to the 11th century. EFE said their total value is more than 36,000 €, and they include part of a Roman column and an 18th century ceramic altarpiece.
It’s understood he was unable to provide proof of ownership.
The items are now in the custody of the Archaeological Museum in Dénia, and the suspect faces a possible three years in prison.
