A nine month old baby has died in a fire which broke out in a block of flats in the centre of Soria on Thursday morning, where six others were injured including the child’s twin brother. He’s seriously injured, but his life is not in danger, according to reports.

The children’s pregnant mother was admitted to hospital with the effects of smoke inhalation, where she is under observation, and it’s understood none of the remaining injured, who live on the floor above, were seriously hurt. They include a 21 month old baby. Soria City Hall has called two days of official mourning for the baby who died in the fire.

A fault in the building’s electrical system was being put forward as the most likely cause of the blaze.

In Andalucía, a teenager who was found dead in a burnt-out shack in Almería City on Wednesday, died after the embers of a camp-fire took hold again and spread inside, Europa Press said. The news agency quoted information from the government delegate in the province that the fire, lit around two metres away, was thought to have been extinguished but revived again in the high winds. Sixteen year old E.C.A., from Palma de Mallorca, was found dead inside with her dog.

The news agency said she lived in the shack, built out of pallets and plastic, with three relatives.
