Several people have been arrested in a police operation against an alleged Islamist cell in Vitoria overnight. Sources at the regional police force in the Basque Country, la Ertzaintza, say the operation remains open and more arrests have not been ruled out.
Details on the operation remain scarce, but first reports indicate that at least three arrests have taken place, although there are some reports of as many as seven. Those arrested are accused of raising funds for the Jihad.
Last January 19 the Guardia Civil arrested 14 people in Barcelona allegedly linked to another radical Islamist cell which was, according to the Ministry for the Interior, planning an attack on the Barcelona public transport system.
