Murcia court officers strike stops more than 6,000 trials

The court officers’ strike continues in Murcia, and 15 union members spent Tuesday night in the Murcia Palacio de Justicia as part of their protest to demand salaries equal to regions where responsibility for the judiciary has been devolved. The Justice Ministry has offered an increase of 180 € a month, 20 € less than what they are demanding.
The strike is having its effect on all types of legal proceedings: weddings are taking place, but no applications for marriage can be made. Neither are new-born babies being registered until they are 30 days old which, as 20 minutos notes, means the child cannot be registered in the Social Security system and so cannot be assigned a paediatrician.
The newspaper said 6,500 trials have failed to take place from the day the strike began until this Wednesday.
