Work started in Málaga province this Monday to replace the sand lost from the beaches in the storms and Levante winds earlier this month. The Environment Ministry has promised to replace the sand ‘immediately’ to make them ready for Easter, and the Coastal Authority will be depositing 200,000 cubic metres on the beaches affected on the Costa del Sol.

The first work was on La Caleta beach in Málaga City, where Europa Press said up to 40,000 cubic metres of sand will be placed. It is the turn of Torrox on Tuesday, and then in Marbella, on Fontanilla and Casablanca.

Other beaches in Estepona, Benalmádena, and Chilches, Mezquitilla and Lagos in Vélez Málaga will also receive new sand. It is expected to cost around 12 million €.
