The body which oversees the judiciary in Spain, the General Council for Judicial Power, met in a full session on Wednesday and ratified by 13 votes to five the decision by its permanent committee last week to temporarily suspend the Murcia judge, Fernando Ferrín Calamita, from duty. His suspension comes after the Murcia High Court of Justice agreed to admit a complaint from a lesbian woman who claims that the judge maliciously delayed her application to adopt her partner’s biological daughter.
Europa Press notes the suspension will remain in place until the criminal case against the judge is resolved, although he is, in fact, not currently working after being signed off by his doctor for depression last summer.
Ferrín Calamita faces a fine for another serious fault, for comments he made to a lesbian mother during a hearing where he denied her custody of her two daughters.
