Forty six percent of the registered population in Mazarrón are non-Spaniards, and the Town Hall is offering a new service at its information desk to help foreign residents who are unable to speak Spanish. It’s a system which uses a mobile phone and two sets of headphones, and can provide a simultaneous translation in either English, French, German or Arabic.
La Opiníon de Murcia describes it as a pilot scheme in the Region and says it will also be available in Puerto de Mazarrón in the near future. The paper gives the total registered foreign population in Mazarrón as 16,427 people from 79 different nationalities. Thirty percent of those, they say, are from European countries.
