The 23 year old woman from Morocco found dead in her Granada City flat on Tuesday afternoon has been named by EFE as Lamyae D., a pharmacy student at Granada University. A five minute silence was held in her memory outside all faculties at the university on Thursday at midday.

It’s now known that the 52 year old man arrested in connection with her death, M.R.S., has confessed to the murder. He was known to the victim and there were no signs of forced entry to the flat. EFE said he said in his statement to police that he was drunk at the time, and ‘lost his head.’ He is understood to have a previous record for sexual assault and robbery, and has now been remanded to custody after appearing before the duty judge.

Lamyae’s body was found at the flat on Calle San Ambrosio in the northern part of the city by one of her flatmates, with 20 or so stab wounds in her chest, made by a knife more than 2 cms wide and more than 20 cms long.
